The start of the NHL season kicked October 7th as the San Jose Sharks battled the Nashville Predators in a back to back international series. This is the first NHL international game since 2019.
As for the rest of the NHL, the season started with a double header on October 11th, featuring the New York Rangers battling it out with the Tampa Bay Lightening and Vegas Golden Knights against the LA Kings.
The reigning Stanley Cup Champions Colorado Avalanche returned to the ice on the 12th in a home matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. They come into the season as the favorite to hoist the trophy, sitting at +425 with repeat aspirations.
With plenty of season left to be played out, here are the updated Stanley Cup odds. (via BetMGM):

Stanley Cup Favorites
The Colorado Avalanche entered the regular season as the betting favorite and the Avs have only solidified that position with their play during the postseason. Colorado swept the Predators and Oilers in the First Round and Western Finals respectively, with the Avalanche also beating the Blues 4-2 in between.
They capped their championship run by taking down the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6. Coming in as the rightful favorite this season, we can expect the Av’s to make another run at the cup after picking up right where they left off with a winning record and near top of their division.
Toronto comes in as the second favorite, noticeably behind the leading Av’s at +800. They have yet to get over the hump of the first round but this year is as good as any should the talent jell together by seasons end. It’s been a shaky start for the Maple Leafs as they are 2-2 with a -1 goal differential.
The Florida Panthers round out the top three at +900. Dominating the regular season last year as one of the highest scoring units in hockey, they fell flat in their round two loss to the Tampa Bay Lightening. They will look to turn their misfortunes around behind another high powered offense that has led them to a 2-1 record to start the season.
